Battery Passport: what manufacturers should prepare for 2027

The EU Battery Regulation, Regulation (EU) 2023/1542, establishes one of the clearest Digital Product Passport obligations.
Which batteries are covered? The passport requirement applies to categories including EV batteries, light means of transport (LMT) batteries and industrial batteries above 2 kWh.
What information matters? The framework covers battery identity, model and manufacturer data, chemistry, critical raw materials, hazardous substances, carbon-footprint information where applicable, recycled content, performance and durability, supply-chain due diligence, disassembly and end-of-life information.
Individual battery identity Covered batteries need an individual identity. The system must connect each physical battery serial number to its own digital passport and data carrier, not only create one QR for an entire batch.
What should manufacturers do now? Classify battery categories, organize cell and raw-material supplier data, review serial-number systems and prepare conformity and test documentation.
