QR codes, GTIN and labels: what changes with Digital Product Passports?

A Digital Product Passport is accessed through a data carrier, commonly a QR code.
What is inside the QR? Normally the QR contains a persistent web identifier, not the complete dataset. The destination can present current permitted passport information while the physical label remains unchanged.
What if there is no GTIN? A DPP can still use another persistent identifier. Where a GS1 identifier exists, GS1 Digital Link provides a standardized way to express product, batch and serial identifiers in a web address.
Where should the QR go? The carrier should remain accessible for the period required by applicable product rules. Depending on the sector, it may appear on a permanent textile label, battery label, product plate, packaging or documentation.
Model, batch or individual item? DPP identity can exist at model, batch or individual-item level. Some battery categories require an individual identity, meaning each physical battery needs its own serial record and QR.
